OPITMA Winner for 'The Hen Men'

Our film 'The Hen Men' has won a coveted Older People in the Media Awards at the British Library Thursday 13th November 2014. Run by 'Independent Age' it recognises media coverage that portrays issues around age. We're thrilled and honoured to have won this award!

BBC Commission 29min doc 'Homecoming'

Meerkat Films has been commissioned to produce a 29min doc for BBC1 North East and Cumbria. 'Homecoming' explores the result of the 13 year conflict in Afghanistan and the often tricky return to civy street.

RTS Award 2014

At the glitzy event in the Hilton Hotel on Saturday 1st March, Meerkat films were awarded the 'Non Broadcast Factual' Award for 'But I'm Here for Mental Health'. Were thrilled to bits and credit must be shared with partner organisations Helix Arts and Tyneside Mind.

Commissioned to make primetime regional documentary for BBC1

BBC North East and Cumbria have commissioned us to make a 30minute factual programme for BBC1. Called 'Restoring England's Heritage' it will feature presenter Chris Jackson.

Allah’s Gift Completed

Despite a long, sometimes tricky editing process, Allah’s Gift is now finished and ready to enter into festivals. From the offset we wanted to deliver a striking visual experience and complex soundscape to fully capture the backdrop of human stories in the desert - it has taken some time but we believe we have achieved this aim!

Wrap on Indian feature film ‘Porichoi’

After an incredibly hectic few months, a wrap has been called on ‘Porichoi’. What began as Skype chats across continents has resulted in a finished feature that we’re all really proud of. We’re all sad to say goodbye to the Indian team but hopefully we’ll all see each other again. For now though, turkey and christmas pudding await...

Older People Adopting Hens Documentary Commissioned

After meeting with regional charity Equal Arts, they have confirmed that they would like commission Meerkat to make a documentary about their new project Hen Power.

'The Ball' makes it onto the Bafta Longlist

The long list is the best 15 shorts selected out of the hundreds of British Shorts considered each year. The Ball made it into the final 15, but unfortunately not into the final 3 selected for nomination. We're still super proud!

'The Ball' Wins the Golden Plaque for short film

At the 17th International Children's Film Festival of India, in Hyderabad our short 'The Ball' was awarded the Golden Plaque in a live televised award ceremony. The festival screened over 150 films and children from all over India attended.

Universal Sports Television, a subsidiary of NBC Universal has acquired our documentary to be shown during their adventure month in April.  The channel is available in 65 million homes in the States.

'The Ball' wins Best Short Film!

The Ball has been selected as 'best short film' at the 2011 11mm Shortkicks Film Festival in Berlin, this accompanies the 'Special Jury Prize' that was awarded at the LA Ladyfilmmakers festival back in 2010.

'The Camels That Race' in production

After a 2 month shoot in the Sharqia sands region of Oman we are half way through production of our National Geographic Doc.  To be completed summer 2011, we'll be shooting the final section of the film in March 2011.

ReflectFilms shown at awards ceremony at the Baltic

Meerkat Films' produced the three ReflectFilms for Port of Tyne, they were shown last night at the high profile ceremony at the Baltic, Gateshead.  The films are 'Rift' directed by Alex Kinsey, 'Tunnel' by Carol Lynn and 'Tyne God' by Steven Gaythorpe and all can be seen on our Watch page or the reflect-tyne website.

Meerkat complete production of their drama 'Because I Like you'

26 Jun 2009 Meerkat's first venture into drama, 'Because I Like you' is a 10min film funded by Northern Film and Media and the UK Film Council.  The film was shot on the Red One camera and stars Daniel Frost and Sophie Wu.

Meerkat Films short listed for 4Talent Award 2008
