Dalcroze Resource 7+8: Seniors and Special Needs Children
Shot in Geneva Switzerland, 2007 and Manchester England, 2009
A 1 disc pack

This double disc features Dalcroze principles being applied in settings beyond typical musical training for children or music students.
Disc one features classes taught by Bethan Habron-James (Dalcroze Licentiate) at a primary school for children with learning difficulties. Bethan has been delivering sessions in the school for many years and her work there has elicited fascinating and awe-inspiring results. The disc contains two complete classes with children of different ages and abilities, all within the autistic spectrum. Also included on the disc is an interview with Bethan and one of the regular teachers at the school. With references to the classes shown they discuss the benefits of Dalcroze for autistic children, and what considerations there may be when planning and delivering classes.
Disc two features a complete class delivered by Professor Ruth Giannada to seniors at the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze, Geneva, Switzerland during the 2007 congress. Ruth has been teaching seniors for many years and is engaged in joint research with Reto Kressig MD, Department of Rehabilitation and Geriatrics Geneva University Hospitals, on the benefits of eurhythmics training for seniors. The participants in the class are non- musicians aged between 65 and 85. The focus is to improve mobility in order to prevent falling while also increasing cognitive and emotional well-being. Included on this disc is a presentation given by Kressig on his fascinating research which links gait variability to an increased risk of falling and why Dalcroze Eurhythmics can help.
